So far in this book and the discussion topics I think that the amount of shielding and protection is effecting Jeanette very negatively. She has troubles in school because she was not able to experience a normal childhood. It's to the point that she is getting in trouble or counseled for being too preoccupied with God. Don't get me wrong I don't think there is anything wrong with having faith or religion. I just think that the way Jeanette's mother has incorporated it into her life is causing damage. She has no interpersonal skill with the other students. When it comes to gender she is at the stage that she thinking about things and noticing more things. If her mother had maybe a little, love, passion, or romance in her relationship with Jeanette's father or seen or was explained to more about relationships she would not be so confused or thinking against marriage. Protection is only good to a certain point.
