Hmong In Minnesota

When I picked up this book I was not sure if it would be very interesting. Mostly due to the fact that I did not know much about the Hmong at all. After reading about how they helped the U.S. in their country under cover I look at the Hmong as very courageous. Unfortunately their new regime did not and they were sent as refugees the America. I think that the support that they received when they arrived was well deserved and maybe even more should have been allocated. Interesting book!

I definitely agree that after all the Hmong people did to help the U.S. government, they could have given more support and assistance to the refugees that are living here. I would guess that because the history of Hmong immigrants just isn't that well known, that might be why there isn't more public support for these people, and so many folks who don't know why they're here.

I agree with you about the support that was given to the refugees once they made it to the U.S., especially after how they helped the U.S. in the Vietnam War. I wasn't sure if I would like the book either, but I find it very well-written and interesting. I particularly like the accounts Vang gives from some Hmong people who described their escape from Laos.

I agree with you that the reason the Hmong are here is super courageous. I have read a story before about a young boy becoming a solider and it changing his whole life. Reading this and seeing that many of these people choose to be on the U.S. side and fight for their rights is awesome. It is sad that they had to leave in order to get a more safe life, but I'm glad they got it in the end.

I enjoyed the layout and comments on your blog, Stephanie. Nice work. And your final paper was very ambitious. Just a note: Kindred was science fiction (not non-fiction) and Vang came from Laos, though yes, her refugee status was related to the Vietnam war. You had her coming from Vietnam. Some fine material in the paper as well though.
